New and upgraded features
  • Stacked sensor: The new sensor architecture provides faster readout speeds, which significantly reduces rolling shutter distortion in stills and video compared to the original R5.
  • Eye-controlled AF: A feature migrated from the EOS R3 that lets you move the autofocus point by simply looking through the viewfinder.
  • Faster electronic shutter: The maximum speed has increased to 1/32,000 sec.
  • Pre-continuous shooting: This feature buffers up to 15 frames before the shutter is fully pressed, so you don’t miss the decisive moment in action or wildlife photography.
  • Video improvements: Canon borrowed features from its Cinema EOS line, adding tools like waveform monitors, false color, and a tally lamp. It also has a dedicated video/stills switch.
  • In-camera AI upscaling: An in-camera processing option uses neural network technology to upscale 45-megapixel JPEG or HEIF files to create stunning 179-megapixel images.
  • Improved heat dissipation: Design improvements to the body and the option of using a new battery grip with a built-in cooling fan (CF-R20EP) allow for extended video recording times.
